A Maddington church was empowering children to be a hero by standing up to bullying.

Centrepoint church children’s pastor Taryn Hamilton said the church would hold a heroes day for children in years one to six next month to address bullying in a way that was both fun and educational.

She said the church hoped to pass on the anti bullying message by empowering children and showing them they have a voice against bullies.

“Like every super hero they have something to offer and just because they’re kids doesn’t mean they can’t do something significant,” she said.

“The other component is because we’re relating it to super heroes, they’re powers, like their shield could mean standing up and protecting their friends.”

She said this age group was particularly important to reach because issues that used to be common for teenagers were now becoming prevalent in primary school aged children.

“We need to talk about it at a younger age so that they have these good values entrenched in them already,” she said.

Heroes days would be held at the Centrepoint church at 1895 Albany Highway, Maddington on October 3 and at the Bibra Lake campus in Discovery Drive on October 10.
