Federal Member for Swan, Zaneta Mascarenhas, recently visited the Canning Vale depot of St Vincent de Paul (Vinnies), which received $5,000 in the 2022/23 round of the Volunteer Grants.

Expressions of Interest for the 2024-25 Volunteer Grant Program are now open to community organisations across the Swan electorate.

Through the program, grants ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 are available to help community organisations support their volunteers and recognise the valuable role they play in building more resilient and cohesive communities.

Due to electoral boundary changes, the Swan electorate now includes Wilson, Cannington, Ferndale, Lynwood, Langford, Beckenham, and East Cannington, and still includes Bentley, St James, and Queens Park in the City of Canning.

Federal Member for Swan, Zaneta Mascarenhas, is calling on community organisations across the electorate to submit an application and take advantage of this opportunity.

“Volunteers are the backbone of our communities. They give their time, energy, and passion to make a real difference,” Ms Mascarenhas said.

“These grants provide vital support for organisations so they can continue their incredible work, especially in areas that need it most.”

To better reflect areas of high demand for volunteer organisations, this year’s Volunteer Grants focus on two key areas – Communications and IT support, and supporting children and young people under 18.

Therefore, the grants can be used for essential items such as laptops, mobile phones, payment devices, software, insurance premiums, as well as activities and resources that support the development and well-being of children and youth.

Ms Mascarenhas explained that these changes address the evolving needs of community organisations.

“By prioritising technology, insurance, and youth-focused initiatives, the grants will help organisations modernise and continue delivering vital support to those who need it most,” Ms Mascarenhas said.

To be eligible to apply for a grant, organisations must be not-for-profit and have more than 40 per cent of their staff as volunteers.

In 2022/23, $92,958 was distributed to 24 different organisations in the electorate through the Volunteer Grant Program.
