The City of Canning will hold a series of free events in late March to celebrate Women’s History Month.
University of Western Australia Professor Jane Lydon will host The History of Women’s Suffrage in WA on March 24 from 10am at Riverton Library.
Curtin University historian Bobbie Oliver will give a talk on March 29 from 6pm at Cannington Library on feminist and social worker Jean Beadle.
Heritage Services’ Geoff Moore will share historical stories of women in Canning on March 30 from 10am at Riverton Library.
Prof Lydon said the history of women’s suffrage in the state was an important story that was sometimes overlooked.
“Women’s History Month is important because often we forget how hard it was for women to achieve the rights we have – and how easily they are lost if we are not vigilant,” she said.
Registration to the events was available through the Riverton and Cannington libraries but attendees could still come along if they had not registered.
