Teen charged for pointing lasers at planes and drivers

A 17-year-old Thornlie girl was charged after allegedly pointing lasers at commercial aircraft and drivers in Canning Vale.

Canning Vale local policing team (LPT) officers began their investigation after several reports from commercial aircraft pilots that while flying over the Perth metropolitan area they had a green laser pointed at them.

On July 17 a woman driving along Ranford Road in Canning Vale had also had a green laser beam pointed at her.

The beam was coming from another vehicle travelling behind her.

The woman pulled over until the vehicle passed her.

LPT officers executed a search warrant on a home in Thornlie on July 23 where they seized eight laser pointers and about five grams of cannabis.

The Thornlie girl was charged with three counts of causing fear or alarm with laser or light and one count each of possessing drug paraphernalia, possessing methamphetamine, possessing cannabis and possessing a controlled weapon.

She was due to appear in the Armadale children’s court on August 10.

A 25-year-old Thornlie man was also charged with one count of possessing cannabis, possessing drug paraphernalia and possessing a controlled weapon.

He was due to appear in the Armadale magistrates court on August 11.
