Donna Shaw is running for re-election to the City of Armadale council.

A City of Armadale councillor running for re-election in next month’s local government elections said she wanted another term secured to ensure new developments in the area grew the city’s size without impacting on its character.

Donna Shaw was representing the Heron Ward, which encompasses Challis and the southwest of Kelmscott.

Ms Shaw was also a town planner and the Chair of Development Services for the city, which is responsible for planning and development, land use, building and health control, noise control and signage.

If re-elected Ms Shaw said she wanted to focus on changes to policy and legislation to increase growth across Armadale.

“I still want to focus on upgrades to the amenity of the Heron Ward but I also want to focus on changes to policy and legislation that will bring in new growth and development to the city,” she said.

“Making sure areas are appropriately zoned for infill development, ensuring we have a high standard of development occurring whilst also protecting our heritage and of course the natural environment, which is what Armadale is all about.”

Ms Shaw said she had enjoyed being able to make a change in the city since she was elected in 2015.

“There are some long nights with meetings and of course a lot of agendas to read but it’s all worth it when you see the changes you’ve implemented on the ground,” she said.

“I like walking around Camillo and seeing new street trees, new play equipment, upgrades to local roads.

“It’s nice to think I had a part in things that directly impact the lives of residents.”

Ms Shaw said she was hopeful residents would elect candidates with the right credentials for local government.

“It’s important to have councillors who have a background in some of the more technical and legislative matters, which can have a big impact on the decision-making process,” she said.

The Western Australian Local Government Elections will be held on October 21.
