One of the most troublesome intersections in the City of Canning is finally set for an overhaul, with community consultation now open for the Nicholson Road and Metcalfe Road intersection upgrade, which will include the installation of new traffic signals.
As a critical point of traffic flow in the area, the intersection has been associated with increased congestion and safety concerns.
According to the City of Canning, this project will improve traffic efficiency, reduce delays, and implement measures to protect pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers, ultimately enhancing safety for all road users.
As well as the installation of traffic lights, the Nicholson Road and Metcalfe Road intersection project will include the construction of a fully protected pedestrian crossing across Nicholson and Metcalfe Road.
It will also feature an upgraded shared path connection between Spencer Road and Metcalfe Road, resurfacing of both Metcalfe Road and Nicholson Road to improve pavement conditions, and drainage construction works.
Additionally, with the Spencer Road traffic lights nearby, the Metcalfe Road signals will be coordinated with them to ensure smoother traffic flow and reduced congestion.
The project is set to begin in March 2025, with completion expected by June 2025.
