Members of the Gosnells Community Men’s Shed have taken on a part-time intern to learn some of the woodworking skills from the old boys.

Yule Brooke College student Kevin Drage, 16, has a keen interest in woodworking.

As part of his school assignment Kevin was working on designing and building a fish aquarium.

Men’s Shed secretary Chris Beckett said the club was happy to assist Kevin.

“Each Wednesday morning he turns up at the shed on Lissiman Street,” he said.

“He is given advice on design, calculation of materials, preparation and construction of his project all of which help him develop his planning, execution and manual skills.”

Mr Beckett said Kevin was accompanied by his tutor and mentored at the shed by workshop manager Brian Beech as well as other members who could pass on relevant skills.

“We feel it is important that skills are passed on from one generation to the next,” he said.

“Although we have limited capacity to take on interns within the shed we do have some experts who are willing to lecture at other sheds and schools.”
