‘We did it, we won gold!’ Perth Hills Tourism Alliance recognised at state awards

The Perth Hills is a special place and now everyone is starting to know about it thanks to a unique tourism collaboration between five local governments.

The Perth Hills Tourism Alliance (PHTA) formed in early 2019 as a partnership between the City of Armadale, City of Swan, City of Kalamunda, Shire of Mundaring and Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale.

Their key mission was to promote the Darling Scarp as a welcoming tourist destination.

They have grown consciousness about the region through savvy social media campaigns. And the PHTA recently unveiled their new website and inaugural visitor guide, at an event hosted at Araluen Botanical Gardens in the City of Armadale.

The inroads the PHTA has been making in celebrating this unique location and all its bounty have been recognised at the state industry awards.

The Perth Airport WA Tourism Awards evening was hosted on Saturday at Crown Perth, where the PHTA took home gold in the ‘Excellence in Local Government Award for Tourism’ category.

“We did it – we won gold,” PHTA Chair Barb Hugill said.

“This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved, from our passionate local businesses to our supportive visitors.

“This win highlights the unique experiences, natural beauty, and community spirit that make the Perth Hills so special.”

City of Armadale Mayor Ruth Butterfield was quick to offer her congratulations to the hard-working team.

“We are delighted to see the PHTA recognised at the Tourism Awards, and have our beloved hills featured as a premier tourism destination,” she said.

“The Darling Scarp hosts a range of attractions, from the various nature walks, wildlife, scenery, plus food and beverage options for the entire family.

“Congratulations to the PHTA for this deserving award win, and all their hard work promoting tourism across the Darling Scarp.”

Other award winners and placegetters were City of Armadale partners ‘The Hike Collective’ and ‘Off the Beaten Track WA’.
