Roleystone local policing team (LPT) officers seized about $50,000 worth of cannabis and $39,000 cash and charged two Karragullen men following a search of a Saunders Way, Karragullen property yesterday.

An anonymous call to crime stoppers tipped off police and sparked a five-week surveillance operation, which saw a 62-year-old and 29-year-old charged with a raft of drug offences.

Roleystone LPT with the help of the dog squad searched the property and found four kilograms worth of cannabis in the house, freezer and outhouse, cannabis seeds as well as smoking implements and the cash.

Roleystone LPT officer Sarah Behan said they received information that cars were visiting the address at all hours of the day staying only five to 10 minutes at a time.

“We did a few operations on it, sat off the house and got a few cars leaving,” she said.

“One car we stopped had recently purchased $200 worth of cannabis.

“That helped us put together a warrant and we went in and found all this.”

Roleystone LPT sergeant Tom Weidmann said investigations were continuing and the proceeds of crime squad was involved to look into the man’s assets.

Sgt Weidmann said this was the biggest seizure of drugs his LPT had seen.

“For the level of local policing team it’s going to make a significant impact in the local area in regards to drugs,” he said.

“We hope it’s going to mean less burglaries and stealing from motor vehicles because that’s where they get the money from to buy the drugs.”

He said this seizure was the perfect example of why people should report anything suspicious to police through crime stoppers.

“We can’t always give feedback because crime stoppers is anonymous, we can’t call the bloke and say great that you called us.

“But we still want to encourage people to make those phone calls even though they don’t get the feedback.”

The 62-year-old man was charged with several drug possession and intent to supply offences and will appear in Armadale magistrates court on December 15.

The 29 year old man was summonsed with the charges of possessing cannabis, methylamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

He will appear in court at a later date.
