The state government has awarded the contract for the new $8 million Mundijong police station with construction due to begin before the end of the year.

Police Minister Liza Harvey said the station would accommodate the current Mundijong local policing teams and cope with up to 30 years of growth in the region.

She said the station could accommodate up to 30 officers plus up to another 14 with minor modifications.

“The particular site we have chosen for the station also allows us to conduct major modifications to further increase officer capacity in the decades to come,” she said.

Mundijong police senior sergeant Darryl Brandis said Mundijong Road was a much better location and he was pleased it would be built to expand.

“I think it’s going to be one of the best stations in WA,” he said.
Member for Darling Range Tony Simpson was pleased the contract had been awarded having spent years lobbying to replace the old station, which was built in 1959.

In 2006 Mr Simpson presented a grievance motion in parliament identifying the need for a new police station in Mundijong and had continually stressed the urgent need for action.

This week he said the new station would enhance the delivery of policing services and greatly benefit the community.
