The City of Canning is set to launch a new neighbourhood program, Streetsport, at this year’s ‘Youth Fest.’
Funded by a grant from the Department of Justice, the term-based Streetsport program is designed to engage young people in sports and skills sessions, aiming to connect them with local sporting clubs and support services.
This year, Wyong Reserve in Bentley will host the Youth Fest on Friday, 20 September, from 3 pm to 7 pm.
The event will offer live music from a Community Radio Station, a bouncy castle, a gladiator duel, trampolines, and a climbing wall, along with a sausage sizzle, popcorn, fairy floss, and a photo booth to capture some memorable moments.
Mayor Patrick Hall said he is looking forward to the event and believes it’s an excellent chance for the city’s youth to connect with their local community.
“This program is a fantastic opportunity for our youth to engage in positive activities, connect with local organisations, and build valuable life skills,” he said.
“I encourage any parents who might be interested in the Streetsport program to come down to Youth Fest, say hello to the City’s Neighbourhood team, and register on the day.”
Cannington Headspace, MercyCare, Edmund Rice Centre WA, Watch Around Water, and Neighbourhood Watch will also be present, providing valuable information and resources.
Organised by the City’s Youth Services team, the event aims to bring young people together for an afternoon of excitement, social connection, and lively activities, creating an energetic space where they can engage with peers and discover local services. Families and the wider community are also invited to attend and join in the fun.
Open to all families and members of the wider community, the event will provide a safe, drug, smoke, and alcohol-free environment for everyone to enjoy.
