Astronomy enthusiasts were being encouraged to head along to a Bedfordale school oval this weekend to interact with stargazers at an event like no other.
The Bungendore Park Environmental Group will host its annual Stars Over Bungendore event on Saturday at the Southern Hills Christian College oval.
Secretary John Cartwright said he was hoping the weather would be fine for a picture-perfect night under the stars.
“The actual park does not lend itself in obtaining a clear view of the night sky so we use the school oval,” he said.
“Richard Tonello from the Gravity Discovery Centre in Gin Gin will give a talk to the visitors on the night explaining what they can expect to see at this time of the year in the night sky.
“This will go for about 30 to 40 minutes and then all visitors will adjourn to the school oval where the astronomical telescopes will be set up.”
Mr Cartwright said telescopes would hone in on many constellations including the Southern Cross, the moon and the Keel of the Ship while other targets such as the Eta Carinae Nebula, which is about 7500 light years away were also on the list.
The event will start at 7pm.
